There is a lot of work to do here. In rough order, here&#8217;s how I see things:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><del datetime=\"2026-02-03T13:04:13+00:00\">Dump more MMO down the cylinders, and get the engine to spin free<\/del> The engine is free and I got it to start.<\/li>\n<li><del datetime=\"2025-12-29T15:29:11+00:00\">Check the oil<\/del> it&#8217;s full, but the oil is black. It&#8217;s now replaced, but the oil filter is leaking from the seal, so I have to drain it and fix this.<\/li>\n<li><del datetime=\"2025-12-29T15:29:11+00:00\">Pull the battery out<\/del><\/li>\n<li><del datetime=\"2025-12-29T15:29:11+00:00\">Pull the ignition cyl out and swap with a spare<\/del> Done!<\/li>\n<li><del datetime=\"2025-12-29T15:29:11+00:00\">Clean and gap the plugs<\/del> Done, although one of the plugs is cross-threaded<\/li>\n<li><del datetime=\"2025-12-29T15:29:11+00:00\">Hang the doors on the truck<\/del> After I got it out of the backyard I was able to get the doors hung properly.<\/li>\n<li><del datetime=\"2025-12-29T15:29:11+00:00\">Clean out the bed and remove the seat<\/del> This took a good power washing, but it&#8217;s clean now.<\/li>\n<li><del datetime=\"2025-12-29T15:29:11+00:00\">Pull out some spare tail lights and replace them<\/del> Two spare lenses are in place.<\/li>\n<li>Spray everything else down with penetrant\u2014this is ongoing<\/li>\n<li><del datetime=\"2026-05-13T21:13:40+00:00\">Test the plug wires<\/del> Done. I actually used four wires from a spare set I had.<\/li>\n<li><del datetime=\"2026-02-03T13:04:13+00:00\">Pull the coil and replace it<\/del> Done. I had several good used coils in my spares.<\/li>\n<li><del datetime=\"2026-02-03T13:04:13+00:00\">Rebuild the carb<\/del> Done, but might still need some work.<\/li>\n<li><del datetime=\"2026-05-13T21:13:40+00:00\">Clean out the distributor, points, and rotor<\/del> Done. I was able to use the original rotor but had to buy new points..<\/li>\n<li><del datetime=\"2026-05-13T21:13:40+00:00\">Test for spark<\/del> Done, and working.<\/li>\n<li><del datetime=\"2026-05-13T21:13:40+00:00\">Hook up the boat tank, route the fuel to a jerry can<\/del> Done. The original fuel pump is toast, so I&#8217;m using an electric pump for now.<\/li>\n<li><del datetime=\"2026-05-13T21:13:40+00:00\">Pull the distributor and prime the oil pump<\/del> Done. This was challenging but I was able to make it work.<\/li>\n<li>Figure out what hardware goes into the cab top<\/li>\n<li><del datetime=\"2026-05-13T21:13:40+00:00\">Power wash the engine<\/del> Done. It&#8217;s abut 30% cleaner.<\/li>\n<li>Rebuild the entire brake system\u2014master cylinder, drums, and lines &#8211;<br \/>\nI rebuilt the front brake system and got it to hold pressure. The shoes are absolute garbage.<\/li>\n<li>Test the alternator and see if it works<\/li>\n<li><del datetime=\"2026-05-13T21:13:40+00:00\">Find a set of replacement seats somewhere<\/del> Done. I found a set of CJ-3 seats for $50.<\/li>\n<li>Find a replacement passenger seat base<\/li>\n<li><del datetime=\"2026-05-13T21:13:40+00:00\">Find a rollbar<\/del> Brendan gave me the rollbar out of the blue Mule up at Dan&#8217;s place.<\/li>\n<li>Get the engine running and the rings free. The compression is still super-low in Cylinder 1 so she won&#8217;t start reliably. I need to get it hot to try to loosen things up, and then maybe I&#8217;ll have more luck.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Whoo boy, I really stepped in it on this one.
