During my first visit I was being chased by snow, cold weather, and the sun setting, so I wasn&#8217;t able to stay as long as I wanted to pull parts, and I spent too much time heating bolts to pull a hub I didn&#8217;t directly need. I&#8217;m planning a trip back out there to grab more stuff, because I could be spending winter quarantine time refurbishing parts inside when I can&#8217;t be working outside.<\/p>\n<p><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-2593\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.billdugan.com\/scout\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/12\/IMG_0489.jpg?resize=1024%2C768\" alt=\"\" width=\"1024\" height=\"768\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.billdugan.com\/scout\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/12\/IMG_0489.jpg?resize=1024%2C768&amp;ssl=1 1024w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.billdugan.com\/scout\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/12\/IMG_0489.jpg?resize=400%2C300&amp;ssl=1 400w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.billdugan.com\/scout\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/12\/IMG_0489.jpg?resize=768%2C576&amp;ssl=1 768w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.billdugan.com\/scout\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/12\/IMG_0489.jpg?w=1200&amp;ssl=1 1200w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>I did a shitty job of remembering what to pull while I was there last time, so I&#8217;m making a list this time, in order of desirability:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Both front hubs\u2014I&#8217;d like to clean and refurb both of these<\/li>\n<li>The heater motor unit\u2014we looked at pulling this in December, but there just wasn&#8217;t enough time to pull the fender off. It&#8217;s pretty rusty but maybe worth salvaging&#8230;<\/li>\n<li>Inner fenders, if they are clean (moon shot)<\/li>\n<li>The steering wheel\u2014there&#8217;s a ton of good stuff in there, including the turn signal canceler, and I&#8217;d like to practice <a href=\"http:\/\/www.billdugan.com\/scout\/2013\/08\/06\/new-steering-wheel\/\">pulling the wheel off<\/a> a spare<\/li>\n<li>The steering box\u2014it would be good to have a core for rebuilding<\/li>\n<li>The lower tailgate lock assembly\u2014the spring in my mechanism tends to jump off the cam, which means every three months or so I&#8217;ve got to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.billdugan.com\/scout\/2009\/10\/12\/the-closer\/\">break down the tailgate and reset it<\/a><\/li>\n<li>Door strikers from both sides<\/li>\n<li>Rear armrests\u2014these are rare in good shape<\/li>\n<li>4 bolts where the windshield connects to the roof (always good to have stock spares)<\/li>\n<li>Any side molding I can get off cleanly\u2014I&#8217;ve now got 2 sets of door molding but I&#8217;d like to have the pieces that go in front of and behind the door. Peer Pressure is drilled for fancy exterior molding<\/li>\n<li>The washer bottle<\/li>\n<li>The fan shroud\u2014I don&#8217;t remember seeing this, but they are rare on the ground<\/li>\n<li>The interior fiberglas panels\u2014especially the middle section over the rear liftgate, if it has the switch<\/li>\n<li>The hubcaps, if I can find all four<\/li>\n<li>The cowl cover<\/li>\n<li>Any spare light buckets that are in good shape<\/li>\n<li>Both of the 1978 headlight surrounds<\/li>\n<li>Any good badging<\/li>\n<li>The dome light<\/li>\n<li>Transmission cover and plastic shift plate<\/li>\n<li>Any of the evap gear from the rear access port<\/li>\n<li>The ashtray\u2014you laugh but I&#8217;ve only got one spare<\/li>\n<li>The slider windows, if they&#8217;re still there<\/li>\n<li>The license plate assembly\u2014it&#8217;s a hinged model<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>So I&#8217;ll pack another rescue box, run out to Harbor Freight for an <a href=\"https:\/\/www.harborfreight.com\/impact-screwdriver-set-with-case-37530.html\">impact driver<\/a>, buy another can of PBBlaster, and plan an early departure so that I can get as much sunlight as possible.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The guy out in Flintstone with the ex-dealership Scout I pulled parts from still has his truck.
