{"id":3238,"date":"2022-07-28T15:27:15","date_gmt":"2022-07-28T23:27:15","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.billdugan.com\/scout\/?p=3238"},"modified":"2022-07-28T15:30:45","modified_gmt":"2022-07-28T23:30:45","slug":"texas-meetup","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.billdugan.com\/scout\/2022\/07\/28\/texas-meetup\/","title":{"rendered":"Texas Meetup"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>On our way down Congress Street in Austin last week, I was looking up at the beautiful neon signage when Finley said, &#8220;Look, there&#8217;s a Scout.&#8221; She was right: a red Scout II sat out on the street with the words\u00a0Hotel San Jose on the side; apprently it&#8217;s pretty famous there but hasn&#8217;t moved much lately by the looks of the dried leaves on the front seats. I posted a picture on Instagram and one of the local Scout owners I follow liked it and asked if I was in town on Monday; she was going to be at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/tough_enuff\/\">a car meetup<\/a> and would put the word out to the other Scout friends in town.<\/p>\n<p><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-3240\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.billdugan.com\/scout\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/07\/IMG_4178.jpg?resize=1024%2C741\" alt=\"\" width=\"1024\" height=\"741\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.billdugan.com\/scout\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/07\/IMG_4178.jpg?resize=1024%2C741&amp;ssl=1 1024w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.billdugan.com\/scout\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/07\/IMG_4178.jpg?resize=415%2C300&amp;ssl=1 415w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.billdugan.com\/scout\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/07\/IMG_4178.jpg?resize=768%2C556&amp;ssl=1 768w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.billdugan.com\/scout\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/07\/IMG_4178.jpg?w=1200&amp;ssl=1 1200w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Sheepishly, I parked our rental Buick around back; lined up in front of the bar were a &#8217;65 Chevy pickup, a &#8217;70 Ford pickup, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/ihscoutsatx\/\">Lydia&#8217;s beautiful Scout II<\/a>, an absolutely evil-looking early 70&#8217;s Nova, a &#8217;56 or &#8217;57 Belair sedan, and a mid 60&#8217;s Ranchero. After I grabbed a beer, I got to talking with Lydia and she told me about how she found her Scout; presently a couple of Scout 800&#8217;s rolled in, followed by a third she&#8217;d never seen before, and then a huge lifted Traveler. I met a bunch of new folks\u2014<a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/atxscout800\/\">atxscout800<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/seatruckn\/\">seatruckn<\/a>, and a couple of other folks not on the &#8216;Gram.<\/p>\n<p><a title=\"DSCF0045\" href=\"https:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/idiotking\/52246443857\/in\/dateposted\/\" data-flickr-embed=\"true\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/52246443857_550cc6fddf_b.jpg?resize=1024%2C683&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"DSCF0045\" width=\"1024\" height=\"683\" \/><\/a><script async src=\"\/\/embedr.flickr.com\/assets\/client-code.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p>We talked trucks and Austin and music and other stuff and generally had a great time. At one point I looked around and a blown El Camino had arrived, several customized vans, a first-gen Mustang, an absolutely spotless &#8217;68 Pontiac Tempest, a beautiful &#8217;60 Chevy Sport Coupe, and other beautiful cars.
