And way too expensive to consider seriously.<\/li>\n<li>I was then the first person to respond to a Marketplace ad for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.billdugan.com\/scout\/2023\/02\/20\/barn-find-5\/\">a crusty red Travelall<\/a>\u00a0right across the harbor, and the first to drop cash in the seller&#8217;s hand that morning. I had it towed back home and dropped in the driveway.<\/li>\n<li>After changing the plugs, oiling the cylinders, swapping out the points and condenser and rebuilding the carb, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.billdugan.com\/scout\/2023\/04\/24\/runner\/\">I got it running<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li>I used the Vermont title loophole to get it registered in that state and got a set of plates in the mail.<\/li>\n<li>I <a href=\"https:\/\/www.billdugan.com\/scout\/2023\/05\/12\/weekly-roundup-5-12\/\">pounded out the dent in the rear passenger&#8217;s taillight area<\/a> and filled\/sanded the area, as well as the driver&#8217;s flank under the Travelall badge.<\/li>\n<li>I <a href=\"https:\/\/www.billdugan.com\/scout\/2023\/04\/04\/weekly-roundup-4-4\/\">sanded longstanding hail damage out of the roof and raingutters, treated them for rust, and skimmed with body filler.<\/a> It&#8217;s all primed but will need a finish skim before final paint. I also pulled the two front fenders off and began pounding the dents out of each; they are both still a work in progress.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.billdugan.com\/scout\/2023\/04\/29\/weekly-roundup-4-28\/\">I rebuilt the entire brake system<\/a>, finally tracking down <a href=\"https:\/\/www.billdugan.com\/scout\/2023\/05\/26\/weekly-roundup-5-26\/\">a specialty brake hose<\/a>, and replaced both <a href=\"https:\/\/www.billdugan.com\/scout\/2023\/05\/19\/weekly-roundup-5-19\/\">the master cylinder<\/a> and clutch slave cylinder. The truck still isn&#8217;t shifting into gear, but it feels like the brakes are working.<\/li>\n<li>At IH Nationals <a href=\"https:\/\/www.billdugan.com\/scout\/2023\/06\/12\/nationals-2023-recap\/\">I found a bunch of C-Series parts specific to the truck<\/a> and at Super Scout Specialists I found a good pane of rear passenger glass that was exactly what I needed.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.billdugan.com\/scout\/2023\/07\/21\/weekly-roundup-7-21-23\/\">I gutted the interior<\/a> and got it ready for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.billdugan.com\/scout\/2023\/07\/16\/road-trip-parts-haul\/\">original bench seats, which were sourced from a Binder Planet member up in Massachussets<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li>I drilled out the screws and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.billdugan.com\/scout\/2023\/05\/30\/three-day-weekend\/\">pulled up the wooden deck<\/a> in the back half of the truck. I used a needle scaler to knock surface rust off the rear undercarriage, treated it with encapsulator, and painted it with chassis black.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.billdugan.com\/scout\/2023\/08\/19\/major-surgery-part-1\/\">I pulled out the windshield, drilled out the spot welds on the cowl<\/a>, and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.billdugan.com\/scout\/2023\/08\/23\/major-surgery-parts-3-5\/\">cut out both ruined cowl vents<\/a>. Then I fabricated new vents and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.billdugan.com\/scout\/2023\/08\/27\/major-surgery-parts-6-8\/\">welded new metal in, sealed it up, painted everything, and welded the cowl back into place<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li>I bought a new windshield from IHPA and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.billdugan.com\/scout\/2023\/09\/20\/glassy\/\">had a guy come to the house to install both that and the rear glass successfully<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li>Found a mechanic to take on the terrifying job of replacing the passenger exhaust manifold on the Scout without snapping all the bolts off in the block.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.billdugan.com\/scout\/2023\/09\/16\/weekly-roundup-9-15\/\">Painted and installed a new battery tray<\/a> in the Scout.<\/li>\n<li>I <a href=\"https:\/\/www.billdugan.com\/scout\/2023\/10\/19\/seat-box-video\/\">designed and built a locking steel cabinet<\/a> to replace the pipe cage IH installed to mount the rear seat to.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.billdugan.com\/scout\/2023\/11\/21\/weekly-roundup-11-21\/\">Got the truck titled and registered legally in Maryland<\/a>, with vintage plates.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Wow, writing it all out like that really helps put things into perspective.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>It&#8217;s January and currently about 44\u02da, so there isn&#8217;t much getting done outside on the trucks in an unheated garage.
