After spending the time and money to source a new wiring harness, pull out the dashboard, swap in the wiring, and replace everything, I was much closer to a street-legal truck:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>All four running lights work.<\/li>\n<li>The headlights work.<\/li>\n<li>The turn signals work, after some grounding issues.<\/li>\n<li>The dash lights all work.<\/li>\n<li>The heater works.<\/li>\n<li>The license plate light works.<\/li>\n<li>The truck starts from the key.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>But that wasn&#8217;t everything, and there was one major roadblock:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The brake lights didn&#8217;t work.<\/li>\n<li>The high-beams cut off the running lights; this isn&#8217;t a dealbreaker.<\/li>\n<li>There is wiring for a dome light, but it&#8217;s constant power right now\u2014there&#8217;s no way to turn it off.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<figure id=\"attachment_4990\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-4990\" style=\"width: 1665px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-4990\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.billdugan.com\/scout\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/01\/brakes.jpg?resize=1170%2C641\" alt=\"\" width=\"1170\" height=\"641\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.billdugan.com\/scout\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/01\/brakes.jpg?w=1665&amp;ssl=1 1665w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.billdugan.com\/scout\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/01\/brakes.jpg?resize=500%2C274&amp;ssl=1 500w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.billdugan.com\/scout\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/01\/brakes.jpg?resize=1024%2C561&amp;ssl=1 1024w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.billdugan.com\/scout\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/01\/brakes.jpg?resize=768%2C421&amp;ssl=1 768w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.billdugan.com\/scout\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/01\/brakes.jpg?resize=1536%2C841&amp;ssl=1 1536w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1170px) 100vw, 1170px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-4990\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Brake test<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Doing a little research, I realized I&#8217;d swapped the old brake light switch from the original brake master onto the new one, and most likely it was broken or clogged. I found a new one on Amazon (after some dedicated research) and swapped it in this afternoon. In two \u00a0minutes, I had working brake lights.<\/p>\n<p>So next up, I&#8217;m going to sort out the dome light situation, and wire three in parallel\u2014two over the seats, and one for the rear cargo area.
